Birthday Celebration!

Or should I say birthday celebrationS since there were many? (Like the chimneys at Rosings Park) The first was at Grandma’s house (on my actual birthday) and the second was Saturday at my house. Joel had planned a surprise party for me, but was worried that the surprise would scare me too much and I would go into labor early. So he told me about the party and we had a fun time looking forward to it together.

At grandma’s we had my family, Deanne and Elizabeth, and Grandma and Grandpa. We had a lovely birthday dinner with beautiful place settings, the linen placemats, the nice silver, and the beautiful goblets. You did a good job Deanne. Joel asked, "Where do you get napkins that have the same design as your plates?" The answer: Solvang. Home of the DELICIOUS onion cheese bread and cinamon toast bread. We had glazed ham with sweet potatoes and green beans (all fresh from the farmers market!) The birthday cake was a Spiced Eggnog Cake. Yum!

My BEAUTIFUL handmade purse from Kelly!

At the party at my house we had a German Chocolate cake, a Confetti cake, See’s chocolates, Belgian cookies, Vanilla Bean ice cream and Rocky Road ice cream. What a dessert fest!

MANY thanks to everyone for coming to my parties, I had a wonderful time!

Amazingly Simple Home Remedies

1. AVOID CUTTING YOURSELF WHEN SLICING VEGETABLES BY GETTING SOMEONE ELSE TO HOLD THE VEGETABLES WHILE YOU CHOP.

2. FOR HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE SUFFERERS ~ SIMPLY CUT YOURSELF AND BLEED FOR A FEW MINUTES, THUS REDUCING THE PRESSURE ON YOUR VEINS. REMEMBER TO USE A TIMER.

3. A MOUSE TRAP PLACED ON TOP OF YOUR ALARM CLOCK WILL PREVENT YOU FROM ROLLING OVER AND GOING BACK TO SLEEP AFTER YOU HIT THE SNOOZE BUTTON.

4. IF YOU HAVE A BAD COUGH, TAKE A LARGE DOSE OF LAXATIVES. THEN YOU'LL BE AFRAID TO COUGH.

5. YOU ONLY NEED TWO TOOLS IN LIFE - WD-40 AND DUCT TAPE. IF IT DOESN'T MOVE AND SHOULD, USE THE WD-40. IF IT SHOULDN'T MOVE AND DOES, USE THE DUCT TAPE.

6. IF YOU CAN'T FIX IT WITH A HAMMER, YOU'VE GOT AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM.

DAILY THOUGHT:
SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES - NOT REALLY GOOD FOR ANYTHING BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE STAIRS.

Thanks Liz for the email!

Christmas

O Christmas Tree

Stockings hung by the Fireplace

My new shirt from Joel

Yummy cookies for the Christmas Eve party at my mom-in-law's house, and some for Christmas Day at my mom's house. I'm glad Joel helped my with decorating them, they looked great! Thanks Grandma for the bag of Lars' Imported Swedish Sugar, it looked fantastic on the Snowflakes and the Stars since the granule is so much larger than regular sugar.

Awww!

Look! It's Santa! Loved the costume Dad, next year you'll have a grandchild to bounce on your knee.

SNOW!

Can you believe snow in Victorville? UNBELIEVABLE! The Cajon pass was closed Monday the 15th so Joel and I didn’t get to work that day. Tues was ok, but Wednesday was bad! Joel carpooled with friends from work and they got stuck halfway down the pass when they closed it! They had to take the side road towards Lake Silverwood and turn off at Hesperia. He didn’t get home until 1:00 that afternoon! Good thing they were in a 4-wheel drive truck! Thursday morning the pass was closed until about 9, so Joel and I made it into work about 10:30! Friday the snow started to melt, and Joel made it to work without problems. I was glad we were able to make it on Thursday the 18th, since I didn’t want to miss the office Christmas luncheon and party! The dogs were not sure of the snow at first, but once Joel started playing with them they decided it wasn’t too bad! It looked beautiful in the front of the house with the Christmas lights shinning through the snow. We had fun while it lasted, but are glad we live in Victorville where it only snows every 20 years!

File Cabinet

I had been looking for a filing cabinet for a while, and so when this one came up on Craigslist, we jumped on it! It was an oak cabinet in a light honey color. We weren’t too thrilled with that color, so Joel sanded the cabinet and then stained it a deep brownish-black. We bough new black handles since the other ones were cheap cracked plastic. I had coupons for Office Depot and got the hanging files and manila folders for a GREAT deal! It looks FANTASTIC! Good job Joel!
